True to his political faith he was against obtaining a British postgraduate degree. As his political views were known to the British rulers, it was not possible for him to obtain a passport for foreign travels. Because of his political views and association with the freedom fighters, he was denied a housemanship at the Medical College, although he passed all the examinations with flying colours. In America he attended two reputed paedlatric clinics and gained considerable experience in the treatment of children.

From America he secured a recommendation and sailed to Germany and there he joined the Paediatric Clinic at Tubingen and had thorough training in child health. After completing his practical training he visited several other paediatric clinics in Germany and Austria to supplement his training and gain further experience in the diseases of children and their management.

On his return to Calcutta with an enviable wealth of knowledge on paediatrics, Dr. I graduated in medicine from the R. K a r Medical College in and was working there as a house physician: Dr. Chaudhuri's eldest brother was a practising advocate at the Calcutta High Court, so also was my c o u s i n u who was my local guardian. Chaudhuri displayed his name-plate outside the chamber with the word "Paediatrician" after his name. Chaudhuri was the first paediatriclan to practise this. At that time there were some physicians in Calcutta who specialized in children diseases, but they were not treating children exclusively; they were general physicians.

Chaudhuri refused to treat any patient over the age of 12 years.
